The Apple Store in Cardiff is offering free courses in film making for children over the summer holidays. This would be a wonderful opportunity for them to further develop what they have learned in school.

This will be your last homework task of year 5 so make sure it is a good one. The best articles will also be included in the next Gwladys Friday.

You need to write a newspaper article. Some of you have already been assigned tasks but for the rest of you, the choice is yours. Please make sure it is a news article and not a quiz, profile or information page. This is due in on Monday 2nd July.

Success criteria
To write a news article
Include paragraphs
Interview someone and include a quote
Ensure capital letters are used for all names and places
Read sentences to ensure they make sense

Tag Rugby Training

Tomorrow we will be having tag rugby training. Please being in suitable kit. You will need shorts or jogging bottoms, a t shirt and trainers.

The session is in the afternoon so we will be having lunch as normal.

Half Term Homework

You have three homework tasks this half term.

1. The spelling test will be on Monday 11th June.

2. You need to write another newspaper article for Gwladys Friday. Be sure to check your last article for the comments I gave you and ensure you act on them. This is due in on Monday 11th June.

3. For your learning log homework you need to present something on Turkey. I do not want any more fact files as some of your learning logs are full of these. Be creative and do a collage, newspaper article, letter, advert or something more imaginative. I expect a high level of presentation and creativity on this. This is due in on Friday 15th June.

Homework

Your homework for this weekend is to write a newspaper article online. It could be on any topic of your choice. You may wish to cover sport, international news, an event happening in Wales, news about an animal or any article of your choice.

Have a look at he news for some ideas but it is important you write it in your own words.

Remember to include:
A headline
A byline
An introduction with who, when, where and what
The main body separated into paragraphs
And quotes (you could interview people you know)

The text needs to be written on the class Moodle page. I cannot wait to see what you come up with. This is due in Tuesday.

Apple Store Trip

We have been given the wonderful opportunity to attend the Apple Store again. Letters were given out today.

The trip costs £5 and we will be leaving at 7.45 on Wednesday. Thank you for your understanding about the late notice but this was an opportunity we could not turn down.

Swimming after Easter

We will be swimming every day from Monday 30th April for 3 weeks.

It is advised that you have two sets of swimming costumes and towels so that one can dry while you are using the other. You may bring goggles if you would like.

This week's work

This week in mathematics we will be studying co-ordinates. As part of this you will be designing your own game on Purple Mash DIY3D. Feel free to start playing around to get used to it and generating ideas for the theme of your game.
In English, we are making leaflets for Renewable and Non-renewable sources of energy. Bring in any leaflets you have and any research to help you make your final leaflet

Animation ideas

Next week, we will be creating animations using a variety of ideas. Start thinking of what your 1 minute animation could be about and what resources you may need.

It must be about something we have studied this term such Myths and Legends or space.

Some of you will be creating models and some drawing. Get practising, whichever skill is your strength!

We will be using 2Animate on Purple Mash but you can also practise using a free program called Stickfigure Animator at www.snapfiles.com/get/stickfigure.html

Half Term Homework

Your homework over half term will be to create a leaflet or poster on how to conserve energy in the home.

You must first do your research on how to conserve energy and decide how to present this information using 2Publish or 2Publish Extra. Make sure you do not copy and paste, write the facts in your own words.

2Publish can be accessed by logging into Purple Mash, clicking on Creative Tools, selecting 2Publish and picking which template you would like to use. Many of the templates allow you to insert your own images if you take any photographs using a digital camera.

This homework is due in by Wednesday 22nd February to allow time for any of you that are going on holiday. We will be printing the work out in school.

A good try but no one quite got the answer correct. The reason the statue is in Cardiff Bay and nowhere else is because Cardiff Bay was the last place Captain Scott docked his ship before he left on his fateful voyage to Antarctica

It was wonderful to receive a visit from Captain Scott today, he will be preparing for his journey tomorrow so we will not see him but you will continue to receive your training.

Research an aspect of space and enter the information into the forum. You can choose any aspect of space such as a planet, moon, star, constellation, astronauts, spacecraft or anything else you can think of. Start a new topic in the forum with the name of your entry.

When you are writing sentences, please do not copy and paste from the internet. You must write in your own words. You can attach images if you would like. The forum is open so you can discuss other children's entries and ask them questions about it.

Pupils of the week

Well done to Ellie V and Joshua who received the Pupil of the Week awards in 5T this week.

Ellie has settled in well and is working hard to raise the standard of her work.

Joshua is a very hard working boy and can always be relied on to do his best. This is especially evident when he is given a task and settles down immediately to it.

Our regular day will be Wednesday but we may have extra PE lessons on other days. We are studying gymnastics and dance this term and both of them will be indoors so trainers or daps are not needed.

 

The P.E. kit your child needs is a white or red plain T shirt, white, red or black plain shorts.

Space Homework

Your first online homework is to complete the Purple Mash activity - Planet order.

You can find it in the Themes section under space.

You must put the planet pictures in order and in the text box wrote both the planet names and a rhyme to help you remember it.

This is due in by Monday 9th January
